Write for the Bears in November

November is National Novel Writing Month and we have just the thing for you – a writing workshop led by Heidi Stephenson with 99% of the proceeds going to Animals Asia’s Peace by Piece campaign! You’ll be ready to join and maybe even win the online competition next year.

Saturday 29 November 2014, 10.30am – 5.30pm in Queen’s Park, London

They say we all have a novel in us, so why not have a go at writing yours? In this creative writing workshop you’ll be looking at:

What makes a good novel? How and where to find story ideas. Creating memorable characters. Writing dialogue. The importance of setting. Story structure. And overcoming the dreaded writers block.

No previous writing experience is required. Come and have some creative fun!

Heidi has been writing for the past 20 years, as well as working as a TV producer. She has published a book on playwriting (Rage and Reason: Women Playwrights on Playwriting, Methuen), has written 2 stageplays, 3 screenplays, 3 radio dramas for the BBC, and most recently, a novel. Her teaching experience includes work for the Arvon Foundation, Exeter Phoenix and Hypatia Trust.

The cost of £75, or £65 for concessions, includes a vegan / vegetarian lunch.  Similar workshops in London are between £70 and £80 without lunch and as Heidi is doing this for absolutely nothing 100% of the proceeds will go to the bears.

Funds raised will go towards our Nanning Bear Fund and help directly with Animals Asia‘s conversion of the bear farm into a sanctuary.

Places are strictly limited, so please book early.

To book your place, please complete the form below and indicate how you wish to pay.  Online payment can be made via our JustGiving page, or if you prefer to pay by cheque we’ll send you details by return.

As the location is a private residence the address will only be sent out with confirmations.

Some comments from previous workshops:

“Wildly creative and great fun! We learned such a lot. The time just flew by.”

You have given me the confidence to finally write my book. A fabulous day.”

“Inspirational.”

Our Bear – Introducing Ronnie aka John

If you have had a look around our website you will know that we are raising funds to adopt one of the bears at the bear farm in Nanning, Southern China, which is being converted into a sanctuary by Animals Asia.  Last night I received a photo and a little biog of our girl, Ronnie aka John, and wanted to share it here with our followers.

Meet Ronnie aka John

You can read more about Animals Asia’s Peace by Piece Campaign on their dedicated micro site.

I have set up a JustGiving page for any group member doing challenges to raise funds for our bear.  If you can’t help out on stalls or come to our events but would like to help us raise those funds you’re welcome to make a donation via our page.  The money will go straight to Animals Asia and will be allocated to our Nanning bear fund.

Join our Walk for Freedom for 130 bears

After a 2 year break we are reviving the Wimbledon Common Walk for Freedom and this year it will coincide with the Stables Open Day, with lots of family fun and fun dog shows.  Come and join us for our walk and then stay on to enjoy a day on beautiful Wimbledon Common; your canine companions could even enter one or more of the dog shows.

Our walk will raise funds to help us adopt one of 130 bears on a bear farm in Nanning, Southern China, which is being converted into a sanctuary by Animals Asia.  The funds we raise for our bear will directly help with the conversion as this will provide her with all she needs for the first two years of being looked after by Animals Asia.

Be part of the change and walk with us for their FREEDOM

on Sunday 14 September at 11.00am (more details below)

You can book your place online or contact us for a booking form or further information using the form below.  Please note that the online booking incurs a small booking fee.

We would love you to raise as much sponsorship as possible too.  You can download a sponsorship form here or use the form below to request one.

If you haven’t met little Smudge yet, the last moon bear cub to be born in captivity on the Nanning farm, have a look at the little video here.  Luckily she will never know the tortures of bile extraction.
